Hermitage to give away its cats
| Mar 14, 2010 14:27 Moscow Time |
The famous Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg has advertised its fourth “I Want Home” action to give away part of the cats guarding the imperial Winter Palace. Cats have been there since the reign of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna. Currently living in the Hermitage are about 50 cats, each having a passport with a photograph. They patrol the museum’s storerooms, protecting masterpieces from mice and rats. But there are not enough mice and rats in the Hermitage cellars now to keep as many cats. The action is scheduled for March 20.
