It will be five years on March 15th since the international company Amway operating in more than 80 countries, opened its office in Moscow. The US-based company specialises in manufacturing of a wide range of cosmetics, perfumes, household goods, quality steel kitchen utensils and nutrients. In the 5 years of operation on the Russian market the company increased its sales ten-fold.
Even with the global crisis hitting this country last year Amway’s sales amounted to close to 15 billion roubles, or more than 517 million dollars. On top of its Moscow office, training and logistics centres, it now has 13 trading centres and three more logistics facilities in 11 cities all across this country, both reaching out to its network of dealers.
The company is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the US-Russia Chamber of Commerce and a number of business associations. Together with UNICEF it is involved in several charity and social programmes. In 2007 the staff and some volunteers raised 100,000 dollars to build two inclusive schools in the Republic of Buryatia. In 2008 the company launched the charity programme “A Child’s Smile” aiming at opening special relaxation facilities at medical and social organisations, planning to invest 30 million roubles in this type of activities this year. Alexei Petrenko, director for corporate relations, explains: “We speak about three components of our charity activities. First, it is our own programmes, financed by our company. Second, it’s the activities of volunteers, and third, donations of the group we call our independent entrepreneurs.”
