The crew of the Thai Union-3 vessel is back in Russia after being held in captivity by Somali pirates for over four months. According to the seamen, they are now enjoying their long-awaited reunion with their relatives and friends. The vessel was captured by the pirates on October 29th, 2009 in the Indian Ocean, 200 miles off the Seychelles Islands. 23 of the 27 crew members are Russian citizens from the Kaliningrad region. Somali pirates are reported to have received a substantial ransom, which they consider to be a fine for fishing off their country’s coast.
