The prominent Russian physicist, Nobel Prize winner Zhores Alferov is 80 today. In the year 2000 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for fundamental research into heterostructure physics and electronics. In other words, it was thanks to him that mobile phones and CDs have come into being and are now available to one and all. Zhores Alferov is the author of 50 inventions, 500 works of research and 80 scintillating belle-lettre stories. Despite his age, Alferov remains actively engaged in scientific research and tutorship. He is in good physical shape. He says he will celebrate his anniversary with the family.
