Yevgeny Plushenko to be awarded gold medal

Figure skater Yevgeny Plushenko will be awarded a special gold medal, which is expected to be produced in the nearest future. The medal will have an inscription “To winner Yevgeny Plushenko for his unequalled skills, from the Russian people”. Last week the sportsman was granted the military Order of Honor for sports achievements by the Chief of Staff of the Leningrad Military District Ivan Buvaltsev. Besides, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is expected to award the figure skater with another decoration - Medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland, 1st degree. Yevgeny Plushenko was the second after Evan Lysacek at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, which caused indignation among experts. Plushenko said he couldn’t understand why a skater unable of jumping a quad, won the competition.
