Medvedev decorates Russia’s Physics Nobel Prize winner

Russia’s president Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Zhores Alferov , Russia’s  Nobel Prize winner in Physics, on his 80th anniversary and decorated him with  the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the forth class. Thus, the scientist attained Full Cavalier status. At a meeting in the Kremlin, Medvedev said that Alferov is marking his anniversary in great physical and intellectual form. According to the president, he is one of those people with whom Russia’s scientific achievements are associated. Accepting the award, Alferov said that Russia’s priority is to revive hi-tech industry and quoted a British scientist who said that all sciences are applied. The difference is that some results can be applied fast, and others - in 50-100 years. Alferov is the winner of 2000 Nobel Prize in Physicsfor working in the area of semiconductor heterostructures. He contributed to the development of lasers and cell phones. Zhores Alferov has 50 inventions and 500 scientific works to his credit. Despite his age, he is leading an active life.
