The Finnish guardianship authorities have clearly “overshot the mark” in the case of the 7-year-old Robert Rantala, born into a Russian-Finish family, Pavel Astakhov, the Russian President’s ombudsman for children, told the Ekho Moskvy radio station before flying to Finland on Tuesday. He intends to meet with the country’s prime minister to discuss the situation. Earlier, Robert ran away from the asylum where he had been placed after a month and a half ago, the boy, who has dual citizenship, said at school that the family would move to Russia. The Finnish authorities decided that it was dangerous for him to stay with the family and filed a lawsuit demanding that both of his parents be stripped of their parental rights. Robert’s mother, Inga Rantala has said the family will seek refuge in Russia. Her Finnish husband has already applied for a Russian visa.
