Imedi war hoax ordered by Saakashvili
| Mar 16, 2010 10:00 Moscow Time |
The hoax about an alleged Russian attack on Georgia was prepared on President Mikheil Saakashvili’s orders as a propaganda act aimed at sowing anti-Russian panic and smearing the opposition by accusing it of disloyalty, leader of the opposition Democratic Movement-United Georgia party Nino Burjanadze said in an interview with the Boston-based Christians Science Monitor daily. Everyone in Georgia knows that the boss of the Imedi TV Channel obeys Saakashvili’s orders. The Russian Foreign Ministry has said the Imedi hoax escalated tensions in the Caucasus and called for an international assessment of the incident. Meanwhile, the Georgian National Communications Commission has decided not to use sanctions against Imedi but just obliged it to apologize for its provocative report.
