Italian script writing guru turns 90

The Italian writer, poet, screenwriter and artist Tonino Guerra is celebrating his 90th birthday. As a screenwriter Guerra has worked with the cream of the world’s film directors, including Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Vittorio De Sica. He has made most of his scripts with Michelangelo Antonioni, including “L’avventura”, “La notte” and “The Red Desert” with Monica Vitti. He wrote the script for Andrei Tarkovsky’s “Nostalghia”. His artworks are currently on view in the city of Santarcangelo. He also designed the fountains gushing out on the city’s squares. On March 19th Tonino Guerra is to be awarded the World Academy of Poetry Award in Verona. And along with the British director Peter Brooke the Italian maestro has won the “Gogol-2010” Prize, established by the First President of the Russian Foundation. The award giving ceremony is to take place at Villa Medici Palace in Rome on May 19th.
