| Mar 16, 2010 13:11 Moscow Time |
The Russian and Turkmen Foreign Ministries have okayed their bilateral partnership program that embraces all sectors of interaction, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told an Ashgabat new conference following his talks with Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov earlier on Tuesday. The top Russian diplomat also touted his previous sit-down with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhameddov in Ashgabat, where the two confirmed their readiness to further cement what Lavrov called a bilateral strategic partnership. The talks saw both leaders focus on a spate of pressing bilateral and international issues, not least the Caspian Sea oil and gas exploration, Afghanistan and the two’s joint work within the United Nations. Lavrov particularly pointed to the necessity of deepening bilateral cultural ties, citing his visit to an Ashgabat-based Russo-Turkmen secondary school.
