The Rantalas consider leaving Finland for Russia
| Mar 16, 2010 14:07 Moscow Time |
The parents of the seven-year old Robert Rantala who on Monday escaped from Finnish guardianship officials and ran back home had a sleepless night, RIA News quotes the boy’s Russian mother, Inga Rantala, as saying. A month and a half ago, Robert, who has dual Russian-Finnish citizenship, was placed in an asylum in Turku, where the family lives, after complaining at school that Mom had smacked him and that he might go to live in Russia. When, on Monday, the boy was finally allowed to attend school classes after a long break, he immediately ran home. The parents refused to send him back to the asylum. Inga is pinning her hopes on Russia’s ombudsman for children Pavel Astakhov who is due to arrive in Turku on Tuesday. She has been living in Finland for 10 years. Inga says that unless the authorities allow the boy to stay at home, the family will seek refuge in Russia.
