Waffen SS veterans march in Riga
Around 1000 Latvian Waffen SS legion veterans held a march in Riga on March 16th to pay tribute to Latvian SS legionaries. Local antifascists held an alternative rally. The head of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Efraim Zuroff joined the anti-Nazi rally saying that he is surprised to see people who killed thousands of Jews to be honored. The police provided security to prevent clashes. Earlier, the Riga Duma banned the march but the decision was overruled in court. Russian senator Mikhail Margelov said the SS march defies all humanity in the year of the 65th VE-Day anniversary.
