Somali pirates have freed the Singapore-operated Theresa chemical tanker and its 28 North Korean crew, ITAR-TASS news agency reports citing local maritime officials. A ransom of about $3.5 million has been paid. The tanker was hijacked last November 180 nautical miles north-west of the Seychelles. The captain of the tanker later died of wounds he had received during the attack. 217 Somali pirate attacks took place in 2009, forty seven of them were successful, the International Maritime Bureau says.
