Sochi to have ecological monitoring system
A complex system of ecological monitoring will come into effect in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Igor Maidanov, said Tuesday at the meeting of the commission in charge of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Mr. Maidanov said 54 out of 128 Olympic facilities had been already approved as environmentally friendly. The construction of necessary sports facilities in Sochi aims not only to undermine the ecological balance of the area but even to improve it by adding more lands to the existing nature reserves.
