Russia’s Physics Nobel Prize winner Zhores Alferov is marking his 80th anniversary in St. Petersburg . The event is marked by the joint session of the Russian Academy of Sciences and  St. Petersburg Scientific Center headed by Alferov.State Duma deputy and the Communist party leader Gennady Zuganov congratulated the scientist and said that Russia may be proud of him. He presented Alferov, who is also the Communist party member, with watch. Recently Russia’s president Dmitry Medvedev has decorated Zhores Alferov  with  the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the forth class. The scientist contributed to the development of lasers, cell phones, computers and solar batteries
