At least $11.5 billion will be needed for the post-quake reconstruction of Haiti, the Haitian government says. In late March, New York will host an international conference to discuss an aid plan for Haiti. Emphasis is on helping Haitians survive the upcoming tropical storm season. On January 12, the country was struck by a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that took away about 250,000 lives and left three million people homeless. The Haitian capital Port-au-Prince was severely damaged.
