Iran is still prepared to exchange its low-enriched uranium for 120 kilos of 20% enriched uranium, but only on Iranian territory, says the head of Iran’s nuclear energy organization Ali Akbar Salehi in a statement. Tehran is prepared to provide 1,200 kilos of 3.5% enriched uranium for the purpose. Last year the six international mediators (Russia, the US, China, the UK, France and Germany) suggested that Iran should ship 75% of its fuel to Russia for further processing. After that the fuel was to have been taken to France to make fuel rods of it for the Tehran-based research reactor. But Iran rejected the suggestion by claiming that it would ship its nuclear fuel only in exchange for immediate supplies of highly-enriched uranium.
