Israel lifts West Bank closure
After four days, Israel has lifted its latest closure of the West Bank. East Jerusalem, however, remains under tightened security, which includes restricted access to the Moslem shrines on the Temple Mount. Several Arab demonstrators and Israeli police received injuries Tuesday after Palestinian activists responded to a call by Hamas to protest at the re-opening of a rebuilt synagogue in Jerusalem’s Old City. Dozens of demonstrators were briefly held. The situation became tense last week when Israel announced plans for 16 hundred new Jewish homes in Arab East Jerusalem.
