Russia to respond to 'greenhouse protectionism' - minister
| Mar 17, 2010 18:05 Moscow Time |
Russia may respond to proposed British, EU and American restrictions on Russian trade under the pretext that this country fails to rein in its greenhouse emissions by imposing hefty export duties on timber, of which it is a major supplier. Natural Resources Minister Yuri Trutnev told this to a session of the National Security Council in Moscow on Wednesday. He said no power has the right to tackle climate change by hampering economic development in foreign countries. He also believed Russia’s position on the matter would have to be taken into account in international circles.
