The leader of the opposition “Democratic Movement – United Georgia” Party, Nino Burdzhanadze, is confident that her visit to Moscow earlier this month was the right step. She said her visit, criticized by President Mikhail Saakashvili, raised hopes for improvement in Georgian-Russian relations and proved wrong the statements by the Georgian authorities that the August war was unavoidable. Burdzhanadze said her visit had received approval in Europe. She also sees as encouraging the statements by the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other Russian top officials that the August war turned a tragedy on both countries.
