The Finnish child overseeing agencies have revoked a lawsuit against the Rantala family and allowed their son to stay home. According to Russia’s Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov, child care workers will be monitoring the child’s welfare. The conflict over seven-year-old Robert Rantala flared up several weeks ago after the boy told his classmates that his mother had smacked him and he might leave for Russia. The Finnish social workers filed a lawsuit to strip Inga and Veli-Pekka Rantala of parental rights and placed the boy in an orphanage. The boy’s father had repeatedly described the authorities’ moves as lawlessness and expressed willingness to take Russian citizenship.
