U.S. eyes Siberia, Far East as potential freight route to Afghanistan

The United States is considering Siberia and the Russian Maritime Region as a potential new freight route for NATO troops in Afghanistan. A Pentagon spokesman, Duncan McNabb has told the House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services that the above transportation route could become part of the Pentagon’s northern distribution network aimed at reducing the cost of non-military freight shipments to Afghanistan. The network embraces several European and Asian countries.
