NATO operation in Kandahar underway
A joint operation involving several thousand troops was launched in the Afghan province of Kandahar on Thursday night, military officials told the RIA-Novosti news agency. This is the second operation against the Taliban movement undertaken by NATO forces since the beginning of 2010. The first operation under the code name Mushtarak (‘together’ in Dari and Pashto) began more than a month ago in the Helmand province. The operation in Kandahar is going to be extremely difficult for this province’s relief offers the Taliban rebels more opportunities for hiding themselves.
