Russia opposes attempts to isolate Iran. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s position in an interview carried by the Rossiiskaya Gazeta newspaper in its Thursday’s issue. He stated the absence of full coincidence between Russia and the United States over ways of preventing violations of the nuclear nonproliferation regime on the part of Tehran. Iran is Russia’s close neighbor and partner in the economic, humanitarian and military-technical spheres, the minister stressed. Speaking about Russian-U.S. relations, Mr. Lavrov said the two countries were no longer adversaries but not friends yet. He said ties had visibly improved under President Barack Obama.
