UN, CSTO chiefs sign cooperation deal in Moscow

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Collective Security Treaty Organisation Chief Nikolai Bordyuzha have had talks in Moscow today which resulted in a cooperation deal. Among other things, the deal stipulates the CSTO`s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, joint fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and illegal migration. The CSTO grew out of the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and first began as the CIS Collective Security Treaty (CST) which was signed in 1992, by Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Nikolai Bordyuzha described the signing of the declaration as recognition of the organization’s role in maintaining global security, Interfax reports.
