Amur tigers expand their habitat
| Mar 18, 2010 15:08 Moscow Time |
Amur tigers are expanding their habitat in far-eastern Russia, moving into areas where they haven’t been found before. The conclusion follows from a report presented at a scientific conference in Vladivostok. About 500 Amur tigers have been registered in the Khabarovsk and Maritime regions. A five-year regional program to preserve the endangered tiger population stipulates a tougher crackdown on illegal hunting and deforestation. New specially guarded wildlife preserves will be created.
