The government of Sudan has reached a cease-fire agreement with the Liberation and Justice Movement, a coalition of several small Darfur rebel groups, Sudan's SUNA news agency reported Thursday. The truce deal has been signed in Qatar's capital of Doha.  The signing of the cease fire is a step towards a final, comprehensive agreement.
Darfur is the western part of Sudan where the civil war between the African rebels and Arabic semi-military groups has been going on since February 2003. According to the UN, the war took lives of more than 500,000 people and left 2.5 million people homeless.
