Russia marks Submariner's Day. In 1906, Emperor Nicholas II decreed the creation of the Russian Navy’s submarine fleet. The first reference dates back to 1718. During WW II Soviet submarines destroyed 35% of the Fascist ships. As of early 2009, the Russian Fleet operated 60 submarines of different classes. Soon Russia will have new generation strategic submarines of the Borei-class.
