The Russian Emergencies Ministry doctors have, since their arrival in Chile, provided medical aid for over 100 residents of the quake-hit South American nation. The Russian airborne hospital, deployed in the area of Puente Alto, is operational round the clock. The doctors have performed 35 surgical operations in six days, while Emergencies Ministry psychologists have helped over 150 disaster-afflicted people. The series of quakes of 8.8 Magnitude have taken the toll of some 500 Chileans. Many are still listed as missing. The national economy has suffered huge damage, says the RIA-Novosti news agency in a report.
