Israel used depleted uranium ammunition during its Cast Lead military operation in Gaza in the winter of 2008-2009. According to the Al-Hayat newspaper, this follows from forensic studies of Palestinians’ bodies by Italian experts. Selective expert examination of 15 war victims, and also an analysis of tissue samples from 95 wounded people prove the presence of dozens of toxic agents in their organisms, including uranium, with levels largely exceeding maximum permissible concentrations. The ITAR-TASS news agency points out in a report that Israel has been repeatedly charged with using radioactive depleted uranium ammunition, which triggers growth in oncological diseases in Palestinians. A report on the aftermath of the Israeli military operation in Gaza in early 2009, killing over 1,500 and wounding over 5,000 people, was made public following another aggravation of the regional situation. On Thursday Palestinian fighters fired another missile on Israel, killing a Thai worker. Israeli aircraft retaliated by hitting at least six targets in the Gaza Strip. Two people are reported injured.
