| May 25, 2010 18:46 Moscow Time |
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin arrived in the Russian city of Izhevsk on Tuesday to discuss a raft of issues pertaining to the creation of sophisticated small arms in Russia. Earlier in the day, Putin met with Vladimit Grodetsky, head of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, or Izhmash, which designs and produces most of the Russian Army's small arms, including the legendary Kalashnikov assault rifle. The next few months will see a significant increase in Izhmash’s arms exports which will be worth at least 140 million dollars, Grodetsky said, singling out the Kalashnikov-200 – an advanced version of the assault rifle which will soon be assembled at Izhmash.
