Russia will not back a decision on the South Korean corvette “Cheonan” in the UN Security Council unless it receives convincing proof of North Korea’s involvement. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Igor Liakin-Frolov says Russian experts have been conducting a thorough scrutiny into the results of an international inquiry into the corvette’s sinking in the Yellow Sea on March 26th. South Korea argues that the corvette was destroyed by a torpedo launched from a North Korean submarine. Pyongyang describes the accusations as a political provocation. It has frozen all ties with Seoul and pulled out of the mutual non-aggression pact.
