Victor Tikhonov marks jubilee

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Victor Tikhonov, an outstanding ice hockey player and coach and a three-time Olympic champion, on his 80th birth anniversary.

In his telegram, the head of state refers to Tikhonov as a legendary Soviet and later Russian coach, who opened a path of our country’s glory as a leading sports power.

Under the coaching of Viktor Tikhonov, CSKA Moscow and the national hockey team of the Soviet Union were prosperous and invariably victorious, which has always been the best estimate of his work. Tikhonov’s players won Olympic medals and numerous prestigious sports trophies.
