More than 60,000 tons of Russian wheat imports have been impounded in Egypt over what the local Phytosanitary Committee claims are poor quality standards.

The amount of insects and bad seeds in the batch worth a total of $12.6 million reportedly exceeds the allowed levels. The supplier firm is prepared to sue the authorities.

The Russian side insists that the quality of wheat meets consumers’ wishes.  Egypt is the world’s largest wheat importer.
