The Latvian Parliament has amended the law regulating mass media broadcasting language.
Likewise, all TV and radio channels of Latvia will have to use Latvian in 65% of their broadcasts.
If ratified by the President, the amendments will put informational restraint on about 45% of Latvia’s 2.3-million-strong nation as they speak Russian as their mother tongue.
Russian is not counted as a national language but many mass media outlets chose it their main language targeting the Russian speaking community.
