Latvian mass media may be banned from using Russian
The Latvian Parliament has amended the law regulating mass media broadcasting language. Likewise, all TV and radio channels of Latvia will have to use Latvian in 65% of their broadcasts. If ratified by the President, the amendments will put informational restraint on about 45% of Latvia’s 2.3-million-strong nation as they speak Russian as their mother tongue. Russian is not counted as a national language but many mass media outlets chose it their main language targeting the Russian speaking community.
