The Thai authorities have imposed a state of emergency in 19 of the countries’ provinces, including the capital city Bangkok, for fear of more riots of the kind that have been recently provoked by the opponents of the current government.
The state of emergency was first declared in Thailand after April 7th, when mass riots in Bangkok resulted in bloody clashes with police units.
In keeping with government orders the state of emergency specifically provides for banning meetings, and grants the police the right to arrest suspects without warrants for 30 days.
