Thailand’s Prosecutor General’s Office has demanded that the ruling Democratic Party be disbanded and about 40 party members, including Prime Minister Abhisit Wechachiwa, be prohibited from engaging in political activities.

Premier Wechachiwa and his party are accused of getting $8 million in illegal funds from a cement producing company in 2005. The case has been referred to the Constitutional Court.

If the party is disbanded, Premier Wechichawa will have to step down.
