Paul the octopus from the German town of Oberhausen has become an honorary citizen of a town in Spain’s northwest.

The Mayor and residents of Carballiño thus expressed their gratitude to the cephalopod for the victory of their national team at the World Cup in South Africa.

Paul, who accurately predicted the outcome of all matches, will become a symbol of a large culinary feast to be held in the town on August 8th.

The main industry here is producing calamari, but the festival’s organizers assured the Germans that Paul will not finish in the pan.
