The contract on the delivery of Russian S-300 air defense systems to Iran has not yet been cancelled, according to head of Rostechnologies, Sergei Chemezov, who said that “the final decision on signing or dropping the contract must be the president’s decision”. Moscow and Tehran signed the agreement back in 2005, without declaring any terms.
A month ago, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution imposing new sanctions against Iran and expanding the embargo on weapon supplies to the country, in particular Russian S-300 missiles.
Considerably more reliable than its American Patriot counterpart, the S-300 system is capable of tracking six targets simultaneously within a 120-kilometer range and guiding two rockets to each target.
