Peat-bog fires observed in the Moscow region have increased fourfold in 2010, as compared to last year's figures. Orekhovo-Zuyevo and Shatura are the two most dangerous zones with their numerous peat deposits, according to the Russian Emergency Ministry.
Over 40 fire outbreaks covering up to 60 hectares were registered outside Moscow in the last 24 hours only, which involved sending the Emergency Ministry’s planes and helicopters to put them out.
