Hundreds of striking truck drivers clashed with riot police in front of the Greek transport ministry in Athens on Thursday after the government issued an emergency order to force them back to work.

The clashes occurred after the drivers gathered to protest outside the transport ministry, with riot police firing tear gas to disperse the angry crowd.

The drivers are protesting the government's failure to consult them over the details of a draft law that seeks to liberalize their sector in line with European Union regulations.
