Russian agricultural producers and trading companies are prepared to reach agreement on stabilizing foodstuff prices.

The agreement is due to be signed within the next seven days, says the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The producers will supply foodstuffs directly to retail outlets, to bypass middlemen and thus avoid speculative price growth.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office has assumed control of the situation on Russia’s food market after unscrupulous sellers used the fact that part of this year’s harvest was scorched by drought and jacked up the prices.
