Machu Picchu, an ancient city of the Incas located 2,438 m above sea level in Peru, hosted a radio contact with the crew of the International Space Station on Thursday.

The 10-minute talk with two Russian cosmonauts and three NASA astronauts was simultaneously translated into Russian and Spanish, and also to Quechua, a language spoken by 10 million Indians in Latin America.

Peru relies on Russia’s assistance to launch its own satellite for climatic and geographic research in the near future.
