Russian warships on friendship call to Varna

Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Romanian and Turkish warships are on a friendship call to the Bulgarian port of Varna after accomplishing joint Black Sea exercises.

One of the Russian ships is the beach assault barge Yamal.

In August 2008, it was part of a Russian operation to protect South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The operation followed an unprovoked Georgian attack on the South Ossetian capital Tskhinval.
