Slovakia remembers 1944 National Uprising

Ceremonies are under way in Slovakia to commemorate the 1944 national armed revolt against the Nazi rule.

The August 29 uprising became a glorious episode in the history of the WWII Resistance movement.

The revolt was suppressed but guerilla warfare continued into 1945 when Slovakia was fully liberated by Soviet troops.
