Bout asks Thailand to prevent his extradition

Suspected  arms smuggler Viktor Bout has appealed to Thailand's government on Monday not to extradite him to the US. In his 11 -page petition to the country's prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Bout says that the extradition will do harm to his freedom and health.

Bout was arrested in Bangkok in spring 2008 under a US request and is charged with arms smuggling.

On August 20,  a Thai appeals court ruled to extradite him to the US. Still, it's up to  the government to make the final decision.
