Millions of Russians, both children and grown-ups; schoolchildren, university students and teachers have started a new academic year today. The first to welcome Knowledge Day were schoolchildren in the Russian Far East. Following official lineups, all schools gave a lesson on the subject of the Russian people’s great victories.

Earlier today Dmitry Medvedev opened Russia’s first presidential cadet school in Orenburg, the Ural Mountains area. He said the cadets’ basic objective was to master information technologies and programming.

The Russian leader feels that if a person fails to possess these skills, they will fail to integrate into the modern-day world, to make a good Army officer, defender of the Fatherland, or work in other branches of the national economy.
