Russia has marked the date of the last day of the Second World War as a commemorative date for the country. The Russian holiday was signed into law in 2010 by President Dmitry Medvedev.  On September 2, 1945 Japan signed an act of surrender and this event is now officially considered the actual end date of the bloody war, in which the Soviet Union lost around 27 million people.

In celebration of the event the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill will be hosting new military history and military equipment exhibitions. According to ITAR-TASS, the first KV-1 heavy tank, the bomber Il-14, as well as military equipment from the United Kingdom and Japan will be on display.

In addition, visitors will be able to watch reconstructed episodes of military history  with the participation of veterans, and a meeting of veterans from Russia and China.
