Russia does not need a peace treaty with Japan that is based on Japan’s terms, State Duma Deputy Mikhail Nenashev said on Thursday.

The statement was made  during an all-Russian conference to commemorate the 65th anniversary of victory over Japan on September 2, 1945, officially known as the end of World War II.

According to Nenashev, the Soviet Union at the time liberated the territories, which were originally  part of this country.

On September 2, 1945, Tokyo signed the Act of Unconditional Surrender bringing to an end 20 days of hostilities  between the Soviet and Japanese military.

In August 1945, Soviet troops liberated part of the Chinese territory, as well as the Sakhalin and Kuril Islands, currently claimed by Japan.
