In the period since 2006, Russia’s new cases of HIV have shown an average annual growth of 7 percent.

The figure for Europe is 8 percent.

The Russian Health Ministry says it annually carries out HIV tests on 22 million people, which amounts to 16 percent of the total population of Russia.

The mother-to-child transfer of the HIV virus is remarkably low.
